Constructed of a silvered bronze alloy, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a crossed hammer and pickaxe, overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of FR VERDIENSTE IM GRUBENWEHRWESEN (FOR MERIT IN MINE RESCUE), unmarked, measuring 35. 11 mm in diameter, weighing 17. 3 grams
