Shields (enlisted ASN 32192739, Officer ASN 0 2011106) served in the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion. During his service he was promoted from Private to Staff Sergeant to Second Lieutenant. Bob Shields participated in all of the 508th PIRs campaigns and battles including D Day by jumping into Normandy on the night of June 5th, 1944, Operation Market Garden
