The form of this "Hand Blunderbuss" is that of a shoulder fired weapon, but in fact these were carried in one hand. Fitted with a 9" swamped iron barrel measuring 19" overall, this is fitted with a saddle ring on the left side for attaching to a body sling allowing the seaman to climb aloft without fear of losing his pistol.
